Building Better Lives in the heart of Washington County
Thanks to your support, we can fund more than 60 life-changing programs, brought to you by our area's incredible network of agencies.
Life-Changing Programs
Some people look at our communities and don't see the needs. They may seem hidden... but they're there. More than 10,000 families in our county live below the poverty line and many more can't make ends meet.
Hard-working families are facing job loss, cuts in income, and loss of health insurance. The number of local residents seeking help, often for the first time, is higher than ever before and the demand for the "basics" of food and shelter has more than doubled...just in the last year. The need for counseling, medical and support services is also growing dramatically,
These problems affect all of our community. Any of us may face challenges at one time or another. One in five will face a disability at some point in our lives. One in four will suffer mental illness. One in four women will be a victim of domestic violence. Most will care for an aging parent or spouse. Many will develop chronic illness. Facing these issues can be a real struggle, and that's where the work of our agency partners makes all the difference.
By giving to our local United Way of Washington County-East, you help build better lives in so many ways. Your gifts go to support essential programs to Promote Thriving Children and Youth, Provide Basic needs and Financial Stability and Improve Health and Independence.
Who decides where the money goes? Our fund distribution process is volunteer-run. Every year, people from our community study the needs within our service area, review the programs requesting funding, and decide where the money will have the most impact.
If you'd like to volunteer to serve on our fund distribution committee, please call our office. We'd welcome your involvement!
